HOW IT ALL STARTED

At REBEL ROAD HOT ROD GARAGE, we pride ourselves on the dedication, sacrifice and community we have built. Everyday that we get to do what we love is heaven on earth. Here is HOW IT ALL STARTED!

Jason grew up in Smyrna TN on a 5 acre plot with a father that loved to tinker on anything with a motor. From a young age Jason was fascinated by bringing old machines back to life. One day Jason noticed an old truck wasting away in a nearby field. Jason convinced his dad to stop by and ask if the owner would consider selling it. After a long conversation the owner said he would be willing to trade the old truck to then 8yr old Jason for a small boat motor. So the hunt was on. Jason and his dad went to the local flea market and found an old boat motor for $25. After a quick tune up, they had it running like a top and brought it over to make the trade. Jason couldn't believe he had his first project truck and quickly told his dad, "We should open up a hot rod shop!" His dad, further amused the wild idea by having truck door magnets made with "REBEL ROAD HOT ROD GARAGE," named after the street they lived on. And just like that, a dream was born.

Infact Jason's dad was able to leverage the International throughout Jason's life to keep him on the straight and arrow. The title was handed over to Jason on his college graduation day.

But dreams don’t always follow a straight road.

Twenty years passed. Jason grew up, life moved forward, and reality set in. He built a career, gained experience, and lived through the ups and downs that come with life. Businesses and relationships came and went. And somewhere along the way, that little boy’s dream of owning a hot rod shop got buried beneath the responsibilities of adulthood.

Then came Joalda.

She was raised in a home where the past was normal—classic cars, vintage fashion, and old-school values shaped her world. After becoming a young mother, at 17, her priority became, reliable independence. So, she taught herself basic car maintenance to keep her unreliable vehicle running. Before she knew it, working on cars melted with her vintage style upbringing, and classic vehicles became her passion. But it wasn’t just about fixing things—it was about proving to herself that she could do it.

When Jason and Joalda met, it wasn’t just love, it was pure fate.

They had everything in front of them—a beautifully blended family, new house, big jobs, a new car, and even a wedding date. Then, overnight, Joalda was furloughed, in the midst of a global pandemic, their world was turned upside down. Their income was cut in half, with three little ones depending on them, they had no choice but to quickly adapt. And so, they turned to what they knew best—cars.

They cleared out their home garage and got to work. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was theirs. They spent late nights covered in grease, using every skill they had to make ends meet. They agreed their wedding had to be postponed, and their plans put on hold. But somewhere in the struggle, something incredible happened—Joalda saw Jason come alive in a way she never had before.

She had always heard the stories of his talent. She had seen the memorabilia, the degrees, the old magazines and model cars collecting dust. But now, she was witnessing it firsthand—his gift, his passion, his purpose. And in that moment, she knew.

After a long shift at his full-time job, Jason came home to what he thought was, a pile of overdue bills. Instead, Joalda handed him an envelope. Confused, he tore it open—and there it was. The official LLC registration for REBEL ROAD HOT ROD GARAGE.

Joalda wasn’t going to let him spend another day doing anything less than what he was meant to do. She had filed the LLC in honor or a childhood dream, that should have never died. And it was all theirs!

Starting a business in the middle of global chaos was terrifying. They poured in everything they had, sweat equity, long hours, and even the money meant for their wedding.

Within a year, both Jason and Joalda walked away from their “big jobs” to dedicate themselves fully to Rebel Road.

Today, REBEL ROAD HOT ROD GARAGE is a multi location business but even more—it’s a testament to perseverance, love, and the belief that dreams, no matter how long they’ve been buried, can still come true. It’s about more than just restoring cars—it’s about restoring memories, honoring family legacies, and giving people the chance to experience the past in a way they never thought possible.

Jason and Joalda built this dream together. And if the past is any indication of the future, Rebel Road Hot Rod Garage is just getting started.
